'Let choice whisper in your ear and love murmur in your heart. Be ready....Here comes life.'

- Maya Angelou

Are you are expecting the arrival of your baby? Congratulations! This is a very special time and I hope you are filled with happy anticipation.

Perhaps you are expecting your first child and are gathering skills and information to best equip you for this new experience or perhaps you have given birth before but it wasn’t the experience you would have chosen. If so, you have come to the right place! You must be curious to know a little bit more about Hypnobirthing, what it entails and  the science around it.

That's the thing. Hypnobirthing is soundly rooted in science. It is a practice, extensively researched and evidenced to have a profoundly positive impact on the childbirth experience.

The science?

Childbirth is a miraculous and complex demonstration of how the mind and the body work in perfect unison. To effectively ease your baby out of your womb, your uterus needs certain hormones to function at its best. The champion hormone in this process is oxytocin, the hormone of love. Oxytocin is released when we feel safe and nurtured and of course, loved. This is where the mind comes in. When we feel scared, insecure and threatened, you guessed it. No oxytocin. As a result, the uterus is starved of its optimum fuel and the body will begin to struggle to do what it is so wonderfully designed to do.

What is hypnobirthing?

  • It is a powerful and evidence based tool for childbirth, which utilises  breathing techniques, relaxation practices and visualisations to enable you to work in perfect synchronicity with your body and baby, in preparation for childbirth and when the time comes for your baby to enter the world.

  • It helps build confidence in the natural process of childbirth, connects you with your instincts, your body, your baby and releases fear.

  • It powerfully encourages the production of oxytocin and endorphins which in turn allow your body to work optimally in releasing your baby and managing pain.

  • It empowers you in creating the positive, calm and safe internal and external environment that you and your baby deserve.

What hypnobirthing is not.

  • Only for  natural birth. While hypnobirthing is evidenced to reduce the need for medical intervention and it is a highly effective form of pain management, hypnobirthing is for every mother, in every childbirth scenario. You do not need to be planning an all-natural  birth to reap the benefits of hypnobirthing.
  • A state of waking unconsciousness, like you may have seen stage hypnotists induce. You remain fully aware, awake and in control.

  • An alternative or spiritual practice. It is science.

How will the KGH Hypnobirthing course benefit me?

You will learn effective, achievable and powerful techniques to enable you to work with your body and to release the fear that inhibits your body from doing what it naturally knows best to do. These techniques will provide the safe and calm place that you need to bring your baby into the world; a place you can take with you, wherever you choose or need to give birth. There is no right or wrong place or right or wrong way, when you are calm, relaxed and confident.

The KGH hypnobirthing course is a full antenatal preparation. We will cover all aspects of childbirth and the early stages of parenthood. We will explore all the options available to you so that the choices you make are excellently informed and in your very best interests the interest of your baby.

How will it benefit my baby?

Your baby is the genius in the process of childbirth. Babies work in perfect synchronicity with the mother’s body to move themselves into the world. Simply put, when a mother practices hypnobirthing, her body and her baby are given the opportunity to do what they are perfectly designed to do. When this is permitted, your baby has the very best chance of being born into calm, loving and safe space, offering them the best birth and start to life.

Will it benefit my birthing partner?

Yes! This is a uniquely empowering aspect of Hypnobirthing. Often during childbirth, the partner feels obsolete, powerless and at a loss as to their role or usefulness to the mother.

On this course, your partner will become an intrinsic part of your hypnobirthing process. The people who are with you during childbirth contribute enormously to how safe and calm you feel and the skills your partner will learn will enable them to contribute their own hormones of calm confidence to the environment.  They will have a significant role as the person whose voice can trigger the hypnotic state for you and they  are empowered to be the person who provides your continuity of care, wherever you are.

When should I attend a KGH hypnobirthing course?

Attending somewhere between 25 -30 weeks, will allow you lots of time to practice and integrate your techniques so this is the best time. However, learning hypnobirthing will make a positive impact at any stage of your pregnancy, so don’t worry if you’ve left it a little late.
